The National Institute for Public Health Research (INRSP) serves as the national lead institution for the Countdown collaboration. It will work closely with the Ministry of Health and communicate regularly with the GFF-World Bank, as well as with WHO and UNICEF.

Background

The Countdown to 2030 collaboration in Mauritania is led by the Ministry of Health and focuses on improving outcomes in sexual, reproductive, maternal, neonatal, child, and adolescent health and nutrition (SRMNIA-N). Despite some progress, Mauritania continues to face high rates of maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality, with significant regional disparities.

Mauritania’s National Health Development Plan (PNDS) 2022–2030 prioritizes the reduction of maternal, neonatal, and infant mortality through a primary health care approach. Key interventions focus on low-risk pregnancies, newborn care, birth spacing, adolescent health, vaccination, and the management of malnutrition. The RMNCAH-N Investment Case (2022–2025), developed in accordance with Program 1 of the PNDS, targets areas with critical health disparities, with the aim of eliminating barriers to essential health services and creating an environment conducive to improved health. Priority populations include women of reproductive age, newborns, young children, adolescents, and young adults.
