Burkina Faso: A New Publication Sheds Light on Progress and Inequalities in Modern Contraception

The Countdown to 2030 consortium welcomes the publication of a new scientific article led by the Burkina Faso country team, shedding light on trends and inequalities in modern contraceptive use in relation to family planning policies and programs.

The article, titled “Trends and Inequalities in Modern Contraception in Burkina Faso: An Analysis in Light of Family Planning Policies and Programs,” has been published in the Journal of African Population Studies.

A robust analysis over more than a decade

Drawing on 12 national surveys, including DHS and PMA2020, covering the period 2010–2021, along with data on family planning policies and programs, the study provides an in-depth analysis of:

  • trends in modern contraceptive coverage
  • socioeconomic inequalities in access
  • the impact of public policies, particularly the provision of free services

By combining descriptive analyses with regression models, the study offers a nuanced understanding of the ongoing dynamics.
