Strengthening Coordination to Improve Maternal, Newborn, Child, Adolescent Health and Nutrition in Guinea

From October 16 to 18, 2024, Guinea hosted the second quarterly coordination meeting of the Multisectoral Technical Committee (CTM) for Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child, and Adolescent Health and Nutrition (RMNCAH-N). The event was held in Conakry with the participation of 97 stakeholders out of 112 expected, including sectoral ministries, civil society organizations, technical and financial partners, and representatives from the private sector.

This multisectoral platform, organized by the Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene through the National Directorate of Family and Nutrition Health (DNSFN), with technical and financial support from USAID and UNFPA, aimed to review the progress of RMNCAH-N interventions during the first half of 2024. The coordination meeting is a key part of the DNSFN’s 2024 mandate and contributes directly to improving the quality and coverage of health services for women, children, adolescents, and newborns.

The general objective was to contribute to improving RMNCAH-N indicators through stronger coordination and accountability mechanisms.

Outcomes and Recommendations

The CTM successfully:

  • Shared updated RMNCAH-N performance data;

  • Identified bottlenecks and proposed practical solutions;

  • Reinforced the role of civil society in resource mobilization;

  • Highlighted the need for integrated service delivery and improved health information systems.

The final recommendations emphasized the need for better multisectoral collaboration, refined indicator tracking, sustained funding, and stronger district-level engagement to accelerate progress.

Looking Ahead

This coordination mechanism demonstrates Guinea’s commitment to reducing preventable maternal, neonatal, and child deaths and achieving SDG targets. The Countdown 2030 analysis provided during the meeting will continue to support the government’s evidence-based planning and performance tracking.
