Tracking Health Inequalities for Action
Countdown to 2030 has released the 2025 update of the equity country profiles, offering a clearer and more comprehensive picture of health disparities across low- and middle-income countries. With 15 newly updated profiles, this latest version refines the visualization of inequalities by wealth, geography, and other key social determinants, equipping decision-makers with the data they need to drive more equitable health policies and programs.
These updated equity profiles reinforce the commitment to tracking progress beyond national averages—helping identify which women, children, and adolescents are being left behind. By integrating new indicators such as zero coverage of maternal and newborn health services and zero-dose childhood immunization, the 2025 profiles include expanded stratifiers—now disaggregating data by ethnicity, religion, and female empowerment. These additions provide deeper insights into persistent and often intersecting gaps in healthcare access and utilization,
Key Updates in 2025:
- Newly updated profiles for 15 countries, including Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and Tanzania.
- Expanded indicators covering women’s empowerment, age, ethnicity, and religion.
- Enhanced clarity and usability to support policymaking and advocacy.
Leveraging Data for Change
A recent webinar showcased how country profiles and chartbooks serve as vital tools for advocacy and accountability. Global experts emphasized that data must drive action, not just exist as numbers on a page.
In his presentation, Aluisio Barros from the International Center for Equity in Health highlighted how the redesigned equity profiles are helping governments, civil society, and international partners pinpoint disparities and take targeted action.
With only five years left until 2030, the urgency to track and address inequalities has never been greater. These profiles are more than just reports—they are tools for change.
